Unique run/eat event draws participants from entire metro area, survey says
What had to be one of the most unique fun runs in town, the inaugural Kolache Factory Challenge 5K Run, won the hearts, legs and stomachs of participants, according to a post event survey.
The run – held Saturday morning, May 5, on the Energy Corridor District’s Park Row – challenged participants with running a 5K race but stopping in the middle to refuel by eating sausage and cheese kolaches.
More than 86 percent of survey respondents want the Kolache Challenge back in 2019. And, of the nearly 500 participants plus 11 corporate sponsors, 100 percent rated the event good, very good or excellent. Hey, Houston loves its kolaches.
Another 85 percent of participants say they would actively promote the Kolache Challenge to a friend and/or family member next year.
The event likely introduced some Houston residents to the Energy Corridor District, the survey postulates. Fun-runners, families and kolache fans came from across the region to race in the Energy Corridor District, according to participant heat maps.
