The Bayou Preservation Association is sponsoring its first-ever Bayou Adventure Race on Saturday, February 18 at 9 a.m. at Terry Hershey Park. The race consists of a 5K run, 3K paddle trip and 10K bicycle ride, all in the upper Buffalo Bayou area. After an out and back run beginning at South Mayde Drive, the paddle portion goes from Langham Creek/Buffalo Bayou to the Dairy Ashford Canoe Launch. Contestants will then ride mountain bikes for the final leg through scenic Terry Hershey Park.
Registration is $75 and kayak rental through Bayou Shuttle Service is $65. Bayou Shuttle Service is handling logistics for kayaks and canoes. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Sponsorships are available, and volunteers are needed from watching over the bicycles and kayaks to providing water. Proceeds from the race benefit the Bayou Preservation Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the richness and diversity of our waterways through activism, advocacy, collaboration and education.
