In recognition of its efforts to increase mobility and reduce air pollution, the Energy Corridor District received the award for “Best Management District Partner” at the 2012 Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Clean Air Action “Best in Motion” Leadership Awards Luncheon. The goal of the Clean Air Action Program is to assist the region in attaining compliance with federal air quality standards for ground-level ozone pollution. The awards recognize businesses, governments and other organizations that are taking steps to improve the region’s air quality.
To ease congestion and increase traffic flow throughout the area, the District works closely with H-GAC and METRO to plan, develop, and implement solutions that address the area’s roadway congestion and provide healthier travel options. As part of our continuing commitment to improve roadway mobility and air quality, the Energy Corridor District is implementing a new Car Share Program as an H-GAC Pilot Project. This innovative program will offer commuters rental cars with waived membership and application fees at various locations in the Energy Corridor. Vehicles will be available for occasional workday errands, medical appointments, and for responding to home emergencies.
The Energy Corridor District was in good company at the Awards Luncheon. At the event, BP America received recognition for operating the “Best Vanpool Program” in the Houston Region. In this program, more than 20 vanpools transport nearly 200 BP employees to work daily, helping reduce roadway congestion. To find out more about the Regional Vanpool Program and how the program may benefit you, visit the METRO Star Vanpool website.
A favorite dining spot of the Energy Corridor District also won at the luncheon. Petit Cafe Mediterranean Grill received recognition as a 2012 “Clean Air Champion” for providing options to their employees, resulting in less vehicles traveling during the peak driving periods. This popular restaurant is located at 1250 Eldridge Parkway and participates in the Energy Corridor’s Member Deals Program.
Congratulations to all those recognized! To find out what it takes for your organization to receive recognition contact H-GAC's Clean Air Action staff.
