Are you a post 9/11 Veteran? If so, the Lone Star Veteran Association (LSVA) is here to help put you on the right track to a positive future. Since its inception in the spring of 2009, LSVA has become the mentoring and networking arm of the Returning Veterans Initiative.
The biggest issue for today's veterans is the unemployment rate which has reached 15% nationally. To curve these numbers, LSVA regularly sends out information regarding job openings, resource fairs and giveaways for special events such as sporting events, concerts, barbeques, and much more. The organization also has a group of dedicated peer mentors who are trained to work one-on-one with veterans who are having trouble making the transition from military to civilian life.
According to John Boerstler, founder of LSVA, the organization is in the prevention business; "prevention of unemployment, family problems, substance abuse, homelessness, crime and suicide and any of the other negative things that have happened to returning veterans."
Recently, LSVA developed a partnership with the Energy Corridor's own Omni Hotel. The hotel supports the organization by holding large military events two to three times a year and offers discounts to members and their families.
