Unprecedented growth has resulted in the need to reconstruct Interstate Highway 10 (IH 10 or the "Katy Freeway") from loop 610 to west of Katy, through the Energy Corridor. Originally designed and constructed in the sixties, the expressway now carries over 280,000 vehicles per day. To accommodate the phenomenal traffic growth as well as address modern safety design standards in the IH 10 corridor, a major reconstruction project is required. The project is a historic and precedent setting public agency joint venture of the Federal Highway Administration, the Texas Department of Transportation and the Harris County Toll Road Authority.
TxDOT has a project office and web site dedicated to this project in the Energy Corridor. www.katyfreeway.org |
